@Psyklone I did it by first reading K&R and doing the exercises and then wrote the tool I always wanted. An approach I'd wholeheartedly recommend. C++ I decided to skip in favor of Rust :)

I think the most dangerous thing about me as a person is that I almost always, no matter the task, give off the appearance and aura that I know exactly what I'm doing while, in reality, I universally have just absolutely no fucking idea what I am doing

It's a bit like asking people "Would you rather buy a beautiful apple that is imported from the other end of the world and been treated with insecticides or an apple from a local organic farm that has a few blemishes?"

Most people would say they'd take the second one. But when they go to the supermarket and buy some apples, most of those people still take the beautiful insecticide apple.

Seeing how much people moving from twitter to here complain about minor inconveniences really sheds some light on why IT corporations spend millions on UX and then milions again on advertising their UX.

As I attempt to go back off grid for the first time in decades, this time with a family in tow, I'm struck by just how much the solar, and by extension renewable energy, industry has changed.

What once was geared towards people living an alternative lifestyle is now centered around making yuppies in the suburbs believe that they're saving the world if they grid-tie some solar panels on their roof and charge their Tesla at home. It's populated by "business managers" who are only interested is seeing how many shoddily done jobs they can slap up in a short amount of time who mask that fact by pretending to care about the environment to their customers.

I have yet to have a positive interaction with anyone in the industry about actual self-sustainability. They just don't care. It's all so....corporate and phony now.

This is a real disappointment in my current life. Can't even drop out of society effectively anymore.
