so i want to ditch gmail and use a hosted IMAP account, but the main thing making me hesitate to do so is spam-filtering.

from a brief search, i can't find any open source spam filtering software that incorporates identified spam data from trusted peers. the best it will do is use data from Spamhaus.

so everyone who starts using Thunderbird has to individually, gradually, train up its spam detection from nothing?

those of you that are gmail-free, how do you filter spam?

Small conspiracy, big money. Spam is a multi billion per year con game. Check the story about the hacker arrested for going against spamhaus monopoly
