I'm working on a #Mastodon tool today that will search for a hashtag across multiple instances and return a list of related hashtags (hashtags returned in the same search, sorted by rated of occurrence.) That should help y'all who are looking for more discovery methods.
While I'm putting that together, check out MastoGizmos: https://mastogizmos.com/ . It's a collection of a dozen one-page, JavaScript-driven tools for exploring Mastodon and Mastoverse. Free, ad-free, works on your phone.
On that story about scientists leaving X and coming here. Please, please lean into the feature of hashtag following and tag your stuff. A lot of us would love to find you and hashtag discovery is the easiest way here.

The comments on my post welcoming the migration of scientists to Mastodon has a ton of interesting comments, but one thing comes through again and again:
Mastodon's lack of a broad search capability is a bug, not a feature.
I understand the developer's motivation in excluding it, but -- with great respect -- he is wrong on this.
