The author is Professor Athene Donald, who is Master of Churchill College, Cambridge and a professor emeritus of physics in the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge; her research was on soft matter and biological physics. Her interests include: policy for science, education, equality, interdisciplinary science.
