Dear Qoto members,

We are seeking a third open-source hacker to join our not funded but good cause NLP code project github.com/russelljjarvis/Scie.

The dashboard tool helps scientists understand how complex their writing is relative to other sources of text and to help scientists compare themselves to other authors in their field. Contributing to this project would be a good opportunity for hackers who like modifying existing code and want to develop applications from scratch, and this code project could probably be reformulated to fit inside an academic research project.

To this end, we have developed a web-dashboard app that significantly utilizes nltk. The mostly built web application guides a user to perform a query of scientific papers from a user-selected science author.
The application then uses machine reading to assess how hard each piece of writing was to read, leading to an average “readability score” for that author.

We would are developing a manuscript that we would like to submit to JOSS and would welcome anyone as an author who could provide help or contribution. Also here is an example of the type of NLTK processing and python issues we may need help with.
