"If you're so desperate, madam, we can offer you MAID, medical in dying."

A 52-year-old retired corporal Christine Gauthier, who competed in the 2016 Paralympics, had asked for a wheelchair lift to be installed in her home.

I used to say that it seemed the socialized Healthcare system killed my grandmother, by putting her on a treatment wait list longer than her life expectancy when she has cancer after retirement... Felt at least from a distance like: treatment costs more than projected personal tax revenue? You don't get treatment. Just die. The system lowered overall costs by refusing treatment.

Saying this today is hardly shocking when the system in now just openly offers to kill patients when they ask for Healthcare.

There's got to be a simple math formula about projected future tax revenue vs cost of treatment, right?

Not going to pay in more? We can help. By killing you.

Free up space from the surplus population.

Looks like it's time to read A Christmas Carol again.

Sure enough, this was calculated and reported on a few years ago. This was before the new change allowing doctors to kill patients who aren't terminal, but have a broken bone, feel sad, or ask for a chair like the first post in this thread.

From the article from the original law allowing only end of life MAID, calculated only on those who would be Died by their doctors within the last month of life:

"Medically assisted deaths could save millions in health care spending: Report...

Across Canada, journal calculates up to $136.8 M in savings"

The savings exceedingly outweigh the estimated $1.5 to $14.8 million in direct costs associated with implementing medically assisted dying.

...

"It's just the reality of working in a system of finite resources."

The report also emphasized that it is only a cost analysis and doesn't include the clinical effects on patients.

______

I... I think I have a guess at the effect on patients...when you're killing them.

Headline: performing more organ transplants from MAID donors than any country in the world

(Definition: MAID means Medical Assistance In Death. See thread for earlier content.)

Excerpts:
“I was rather proud that Canada has done so well in terms of organ donation by MAID patients,” said Arthur Schafer, director of the Centre for Professional and Applied Ethics at the University of Manitoba, in an interview with CTV News.

With more than 4,000 Canadians waiting for organ transplants, some of whom are dying, he says Canada’s numbers show a strong move to turn death into a win-win.

“So I say, 'Good on us.' It’s a wonderful opportunity for someone facing death to make something significant out of the end of their life”

...

The MAID recipient is given the medications in their home, and then transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital to have the procedure completed and organs harvested.
