This is very cool. See a #map of where you live now, but 100 years ago.

The most detailed map ever made of the communication links between the hippocampus and the rest of the brain has been created by Australian scientists. And it may change how we think about human memory. https://www.technologynetworks.com/neuroscience/news/most-in-depth-map-of-the-hippcampus-raises-connection-questions-367546

In 2011, Schwanhäusser, et al. (Nature, 473(7347) measured #absolute #protein & #mRNA levels for 5000 genes in #mamalian cells and informed us 👇
"Protein & mRNA levels correlates 0.41"
Yet, #Reviewer2 demands:
1. #Proteomics validated by #qPCR
2. #RNAseq based #biomarkers
- 930 blood metabolites detected across cohort of 1,569 individuals (paired genomic and microbiome data)
- 595 blood metabolites significantly associated with either host genetics or the gut microbiome
- 69% of associations driven solely by the #microbiome, 15% driven solely by genetics and 16% under hybrid genome–microbiome control.

Great work.
Super quotable piece on the exodus of postdocs
“I came into grad school knowing that I do not want to go into academia. Sad as it is, it’s a tough system that doesn’t favor people who are not systemically privileged”
"Biomedical Ph.D. graduates entering industry can expect to make a median starting salary of $105,000, according to the Survey of Earned Doctorates"
“Culture is the hardest thing to change,” she said. “This is about culture."
While I have your attention, the majority of the parliament of Iran voted to sentence all the arrested protestors (almost 15,000 people so far) to death. There’s so much more we could be doing to help, eg removing Iran from the UN’s Commission on the Status of Women, launching independent investigations into HR violations, freezing assets of regime family members. If you haven’t contacted your representatives, please do so. Here’s a template and instructions bit.ly/freeiran2022.
Now that I'm getting the hang of this I suppose it's time for an introduction and time to trade tweeting 🐥 for tooting 🐘 !
Hello there 👋 I'm Helena, freshly minted PhD in psychology from Cambridge Uni and now postdoc at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE).
Give me a follow if you're interested in research on cognitive neuroscience of ageing and memory, preclinical Alzheimer's disease and neuroimaging or the occasional nerdy comment 🤓 👩🔬
Let's start with the #FluorescenceFriday @ mstdn.science !!
Here you have "the explosion of life" during #cell division.
Deadline 16 November: #postdoc position for someone interested in #microbiomes and #bioinformatics! Be part of a large team and compare a clinical #IBD cohort with a large general population cohort.
#BenBarres was a renowned Stanford neuroscientist, supreme mentor, out and proud trans man and passionate advocate for #WomenInSTEM. Now Pamela Green is raising funds through Kickstarter to produce a documentary film about his life. Please consider contributing and RT!

I think for me to abandon Twitter entirely, I'd need more official media orgs (e..g Sky, BBC, CNN) on here, more journalists because I get a lot of my news from Twitter (esp breaking news).
Also more official bodies (e.g. UKHSA, ONS) so I can see when new official research & stats are released on e.g. Covid, the economy, etc.
And finally academic journals (e.g. BMJ, Lancet, NEJM) who I rely on for latest health research!
Will they come?
Awesome thing about working in #London : looking up! London is a city of trees and fascinating architecture. Lunchtime meetings in Westminster = an excuse to be a tourist in your home city. 🫶

Hi @bmatb, just saw this. I’m a gay 🏳️🌈 neuroscientist in London, looking at how gut microbes, food and inflammation interact to affect the brain and dementia. Trying to rebuild connections after moving across from Twitter…
