Y'all want to see a cool shader?

shadertoy.com/view/dls3Wr

This is mashing up two ideas:

- @iquilezles@twitter.com's closed-form "signed distance to a quadratic Bézier curve" solver
- using winding number to determine inside/outside-ness

Putting these two ideas together, we can render a Bézier font from its raw control points, as a single (huge) closed-form math expression!

£30 Christmas present for me! Do i port stuff across to osx9? Install linux?

@flarb hmmm! Im gonna have to see if it really is underneath ARFoundation then, will be pleased if we can start using unity's abstractions

@flarb we shouldn't need ar foundation for low level stuff anyway right? Really all vendor implementations and features should be coming from openxr. (Not that I ever really had a nice way to write my own device-emulator there either)
My view is, I should be able to use whatever abstraction to write my own implementation for the DK1, if i cant, there's something wrong with the abstraction :)

@flarb hmm i assume unity implements the abstraction, otherwise we could all make our own vendoring? (Hence why it falls behind :)

@flarb yeah, which is why people should be able to make their own polyfill for features, how they want it for their app. Meanwhile the game side uses the clean api still!
Instead the messy hacky extra abstraction intertwines with game code (which should only live on top of the abstraction)

@mcfly @briankrebs +1 lets just leave him on that old service, and use mastodon for content again

@flarb that always felt like the biggest problem to me; too slow on basic features, and couldn't polyfill. (Same problem when their vr then xr abstraction turned up... it was way behind sdks and only covered say, one headset instead of the 5 we needed).
Unity needs to allow users to implement low level implementations to work with their abstraction

@antonhand like, tweaking the output?
I kinda assume that will come, people will want to use it as more than concept art. But is there something these things can't make? (Can easily see animations coming, or 3d)
The generative stuff isn't appealing as a challenge to me (as in, i think that whole stuff is on a roll and sorting itself out, no room for me :)

Gripe of the day; unity cloud build had a source control error; not visible to a "manager" role.
No actual error displayed, blind "re-auth" as an owner fixed it.

What is the next big creative/xr/visual/data/games challenge?

After something like live nerfs, is there an impossible technical frontier?

I haven't posted anything here still, so... here's some work in progress lino cut/print
