We were camping near The Thames last weekend. Got up in the middle of the night to see radiant bands of light across the sky. Next morning, we learned the Aurora Borealis had been spectactular across the country. This must have been part of it, although we saw none of the curtains of skyborne colours due to ionised gases in the atmosphere.

I did take a photo of the crescent moon the next night while anticipating a second coming that was never to be.

@sciencebase There was something rum in the sky here but no colours. Nor moon, it was behind cloud.

@sciencebase Meanwhile in Scunny 10 miles away, someone got on top of the melting shop. NB Wiggins gas holder.

@SteelFolk I realise now that the beams of light in the sky that we saw and the vague pinkish patches between them were the Lights and if only I'd been more awake, I'd have got my camera and probably some decent shots...

@sciencebase I didn't dare go out in the dark down the steps with a stick. Too much risk of a fall.
