@sciencebase I never thought about what adults do that don't hibernate and then wake up for the shagging season etc. Die off I suppose after leaving eggs or larvae behind to face Winter.
@sciencebase I realise that's pretty screwy. I meant hibernate but not even sure they do that either. Maybe just dying.
@sciencebase I disturbed it during daylight rather than saw it flying. I gather they o/w as a larva. I guess it had got ready to pupate or something and it moved very little. Anyway, it's back in the shrubs now. I'll be more careful of chucking cold coffee in there in future.
@sciencebase Good point but I think not. Agree I've only ever seen them in July and only 1 or 2 in 30 years here.

The crunch comes when Labour publish the GE manifesto. Whatever it says IS what they will try to do, unforeseen circumstances aside. They have to. If a party wins, it is deemed to be because people liked what you pledged in that document. It is what has got you elected. The will of the people, you might say.
That's when hoping for all this Tory-lite rhetoric to have been a cunning disguise may have to end.

Ørsted, world OSW leader, needs a lrg jump in guaranteed prices to $150-200 per MWh or it will abandon its immense wind farms off the US East Coast.
Yet Mass, NJ, & NY just closed excellent #nuclear plants making just as much #energy, but costing $35-55 per MWh. Estimates of costs of energy produced by extended operations of Diablo Canyon Power Plant are ~4c/kwh, or $40/MWh.

@sciencebase Did you know that the Apollo visits brought back gravel with tiny pure iron bits which have a rum crystal structure? Queen Mary are looking at them again but you need SEM to image them, so they probably won't show up even with a zoom. ;-)
