@Frances_Coppola Indeed, their now legendary legal legerdemain.
Legal legerdemain: how the pressure group Sex Matters redefines part of the Equality Act 2010 to deny trans and non-binary children rights the legislation was intended to protect. https://coppolacomment.substack.com/p/legal-legerdemain
@sciencebase My eyes see the word but my brain reads 'deionised' every time.
@sciencebase The word wasn't mentioned but that's what it looked like. The transform is a 'displacive' one which doesn't break any bonds but distorts to another crystal structure.
@sciencebase Just watched a vid of a virus injecting its DNA. The syringe 'squashes' due to its material transforming like steel does when you quench it. Incredible one-way event. We don't really know much about nature at all yet.
@sciencebase It's more like vibrate, really. If it's defensive it is a bit feeble. Can't see a Blue Tit even noticing. But things like that aren't often a waste of time, I guess.

@sciencebase I was taught to call them "Jinny Spinners" which is more suitable for the spiders really. We get loads of those as well and their webs make the place look like a Adams Family set. Have you noticed how they tremble when you touch them?
@sciencebase I gather so, but all mine look the same and show off by hanging down by one leg from the ceilings.
@sciencebase Do you get Crane Flies in actinic traps? Little bleeders love it inside at night but they are all boringly alike. Is there anything good about them?
@sciencebase Nicked it from LinkedIn,, so not sure of origin.
100+ from Scientist Rebellion are again demonstrating peacefully against fossil subsidies, on the A12 in The Hague, organised by @extinctionrebellionnl . As well as the white lab coats, 20+ professors are also present in academic robes. In total there is an est. 10,000+ protestors present
@sciencebase "For mash get smashed. Good riff, man"
@Drosmel Looks very clean. You're not doing some Petrology work, then?
A read of the Harpers article shows how much freedom to govern itself a city like Birmingham had in the 1890s, compared to modern English cities, which are run under the centralised authority (but not responsibility) of Whitehall and the Treasury. May be the main reason for the difference?
