100+ from Scientist Rebellion are again demonstrating peacefully against fossil subsidies, on the A12 in The Hague, organised by @extinctionrebellionnl . As well as the white lab coats, 20+ professors are also present in academic robes. In total there is an est. 10,000+ protestors present

I'm personally in favour of banning political parties that are entirely bankrolled by their millionaire leaders. Seems much more important for democracy than banning the EU flag at the last night of the Proms.

@Drosmel Looks very clean. You're not doing some Petrology work, then?

A read of the Harpers article shows how much freedom to govern itself a city like Birmingham had in the 1890s, compared to modern English cities, which are run under the centralised authority (but not responsibility) of Whitehall and the Treasury. May be the main reason for the difference?

@sciencebase I never thought about what adults do that don't hibernate and then wake up for the shagging season etc. Die off I suppose after leaving eggs or larvae behind to face Winter.

@sciencebase I realise that's pretty screwy. I meant hibernate but not even sure they do that either. Maybe just dying.

@sciencebase I disturbed it during daylight rather than saw it flying. I gather they o/w as a larva. I guess it had got ready to pupate or something and it moved very little. Anyway, it's back in the shrubs now. I'll be more careful of chucking cold coffee in there in future.

@sciencebase Good point but I think not. Agree I've only ever seen them in July and only 1 or 2 in 30 years here.

Exploring Trumpism's cult-like grip: a deep dive into the psychology of loyalty. A top advisor to Zelensky states that Elon Musk's decision to assist Russia by disabling Starlink for the Ukrainians led to the deaths of civilians, including children.

The crunch comes when Labour publish the GE manifesto. Whatever it says IS what they will try to do, unforeseen circumstances aside. They have to. If a party wins, it is deemed to be because people liked what you pledged in that document. It is what has got you elected. The will of the people, you might say.
That's when hoping for all this Tory-lite rhetoric to have been a cunning disguise may have to end.

@sciencebase It was the moth. I've seen them before here but not common. Never seen the Butterfly here.

@sciencebase It looked knackered and tatty but there's nothing else like them is there? Like a fancy big kite.

@sciencebase Anyway, I chucked what was left of my coffee into the shrubs earlier and out came a Swallowtail onto the grass. It was exactly the same colour as the moon in your pic.

Greta Thunberg: „After a summer full of extreme weather and shattered records, the world is still gearing up towards climate catastrophe. We need climate activists now more than ever. On Sept 15th we’ll once again strike for climate justice, to #EndFossilFuels.“

@sciencebase Here's one of those bits of lunar iron they struggled to index. Still not sure.
