Stripping abortion rights away nationally, imposing their beliefs on every American--that is their true goal. And the GOP won’t stop until it's achieved.

The fact is, the Republican Party has been hijacked by a White Christian nationalist movement that wants to impose its own “morality” on the entire country, not merely red states: bit.ly/3WmTdlX

Prequels

This is perhaps an unpopular opinion, but a sincere one.

Star Wars (and, no, not "A New Hope" thank you) was better without prequels

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a far more wonderful story with no origins for the lamppost, Narnia, the witch and indeed the wardrobe.

Even prequels by the author undermine the original piece of work

Hard to think of many prequels in film or literature that are worthwhile and do not diminish

Godfather perhaps, maybe? But other than that?

Perspective: The 1980 eruption of #MountStHelens #otd vented approximately 10 million tons of #CO2 into the atmosphere in only 9 hours. However, it currently takes humanity only 2.5 hours to put out the same amount.

We’ve added the energy of 25 billion nuclear bombs to the Earth system in just the last 50 years.

Almost all of this energy to date has been taken up by the oceans. theconversation.com/two-trilli

As Earth system modeler making climate change projections, I am used seeing them as possible scenarios.

However seeing how our climate change projections unfold in front of us, new records and extremes being reported nearly daily, makes my blood freeze.

Bringing the news of the day to the masses was once an almost exclusively male profession. Today, it is rare to find any television or print newsroom without female journalists.

Despite their decades long presence in the field, female journalists find themselves the targets of sexist and misogynistic attacks. The issue is so prevalent that the United Nations sponsored a study on the safety of female journalists.

The abuse female journalists face for simply doing their jobs is our focus today on #TheBigPicture. Read more here: thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p

I read the complaint, and it’s a gut-punch. The allegations against Rudy Giuliani are horrific. Setting aside my emotional reaction to it, I wanted to highlight bombshell allegations that could well impact other matters in Trumpworld. Read more here: statuskuo.substack.com/p/a-bom

The broad fields of Earth- and geosciences continue to be the least diverse in academic science research. The lack of #diversity can, in part, be explained by hostile and exclusionary behaviour, according to a February survey by the ADVANCEGeo Partnership, a network of societies that aims to improve workplace conditions in the Earth sciences (E. Marín-Spiotta et al. Earths Future 11, 2023).

Suella Braverman talks about penis at a Christian conference

thepinknews.com/2023/05/15/sue

UK Home secretary Suella Braverman has claimed Keir Starmer could run as “Labour’s first female prime minister” in an anti-trans dig during a speech at a far-right conference.
