In 2019 I spent a month in SE Asia, during which I spent a week in Vietnam, at Cuc Phuong National Park to be exact. We were hiking a trail up in the hills one night when one of my friends spotted this Mossy Frog (Theloderma corticale) in a small tree, one of those species you hope to see but don’t harbor any expectations. It turned out to be one of five species of anurans encountered in maybe a ten meter stretch of trail. An unforgettable experience. #frogs #amphibians #herps #herpetology
An alien battleship in another world.
That's not too far from reality: an alien (to Mars) spaceship dropping "wheels on the ground", then moving out, and dying.
The Sky Crane after delivering #Perseverance to the Martian ground. Umbilical cut.

I made a timelapse of the Artemis 1 Orion approach end reentry after its return from the moon last week.
The views from the GoPro cameras on the Solar Arrays and inside the capsule were just spectacular!

It's always interesting to see a past #landscape through the eyes of the people who inhabited it. This beautifully drawn and painted #map shows the #bridges, #weirs and #watermills across the river #Trent between Nottingham and Newark in the early 16thC in such loving detail that one can almost imagine standing on each site with the cartographer as he sketches.
The (enlargeable) map is online at https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/map-of-the-river-trent-and-its-tributaries-between-nottingham-and-newark
Wow: 47% of all CO2 emissions from aviation ever were emitted after 2000 https://easa.europa.eu/eco/eaer
This year in Cambridge (UK) the Winter was nice. It was last Thursday.
Hope our friends in Trondheim are doing OK.

This was the local telephone exchange, employing hundreds of people, until it was replaced by equipment you could fit in a wardrobe. Seriously. Early ‘70s. #brutalist #brutalism #architecture

The new infrastructure above. These communication satellites could easily connect remote regions that undersea cables didn't. (And when you think of CubeSat today, this generation of satellites were so huge) #maps #map #space #datavisualization #dataviz
