#30DayMapChallenge
Day 28: 3D
Finally! This was the map I was the most excited to try but one that took me the longest (learning rayshader, rendering, manually adding labels 😬).
Big thanks to
@MrPecners
for the tutorial!

My new #blog post traces the #history of #Hamburg over the last 150 years using 8 of its most beautiful #staircases as starting points.

discovered this extremely #obscure #multimedia #edutainment title, called Jean-Michel Cousteau's World: Cities Under the Sea, last year while doing some oceanographic research.
i am still blown away by the simple, perfect #ui elements and charming icons
afaik, these are the only surviving images of the game, which was never archived online. i just ordered a copy, and will be uploading a disc image to the internet archive when it arrives.
Founded on a bay surrounded by mountains, the city has clear districts with the most affluent building rising high into the sky on the hillsides. I eventually settled for less muted colours than I experimented with, but with some lovely cool tones contrasting nicely with the reds and pinks of the buildings. I was impressed to discover that the NLS "side by side" #map viewer can display #LIDAR images

Mondrian Crescent
I love it when train doors align at the end of a tunnel. The red tiles at Green Park station make this the ideal location to capture this moment.
It wasn't luck though, instead I froze the moving train with a fast shutter. It took ages to get it centred.
This final image resembles an abstract art painting by Piet Mondrian.

Whenever I post digital security or privacy advice, there is always one reply boasting that they assume everything is being watched at all times and nothing is secure. Cool. Good for you. Do you want a fucking medal? Because in the meantime, I'm trying to give actionable advice to people in vulnerable situations trying to live their lives.
Here it is with its bigger brothers on the USGS map of the area.
The 3d print is 1:48000, half of the map scale, and took a little under 2 hours to print.
The smaller cnc cut birch plywood model is 1:24000, same as the map scale. It took about 2 hours to cut.
The larger cnc cut birch plywood model is 1:12000, twice the map scale. It took about 8 hours to cut.
Giving open ai a prompt like 'Write a three-paragraph essay on primitivism and Chaucer's the Former Age' , or 'death and Sir Orfeo,' or 'madness and Margery Kempe' produces perfectly serviceable B/B+ papers. Totally normie readings, with no sense of tension or danger -- in other words, your average undergraduate paper, with the Up With People Culture that's culturally general to nearly everyone
Open AI is therefore a good benchmark of the automatism of most cultural expression.

Un resum ràpid del mes dels mapes!
Recupero el costum de penjar coses més llargues en un bloc, a veure quant dura.
