New posting! I’m less than a year into my new scientific career in the /#pharma sector, and the biggest difference with is already clear: it’s the money.

But not, as you might think, in terms of salary…👇

@TIR_scienceblog really great to hear that you are enjoying your new role. This post didn't chime with me. Although I would very much welcome more money to make things easier in my job!

@TIR_scienceblog Nice to read your update! I for one believe that a lot of things are easier in a system that's not as cash-strapped as large parts of academia.
I assume large companies have their specific dysfunctions too, but those are different sets of proboems. Maybe in the end it's dysfunctional everywhere, and the important part is finding a place whose dysfunctions you can live with.

Nice post!
Working at the intersection of a “pharma” company and an academic lab, companies seem to move money quicker and in larger chunks (time is more precious). Thus there is more flux and surfing those currents by changing jobs seems more common. Academia doesn’t even have headhunters...
Most of the industry R&D budget will go to optimisation/preclinical/clinical though - which still needs researchers, but doesn’t directly compare to what funders fund.
