No way will all populations od people (using academic twitter) get on board with that.
Seems like ride the elon wave until he loses interest and passes it on to a long term owner seems more practical for most people. Not speaking for me but in the broader user base and long term outlook.

I get the advantage and at 1st I never thought they were separate/merged accounts but the more I tried to change servers the more it kept saying I needed another one and thats when I was like WTF

It does appear that in order to migrate a new account needs to be made in order to migrate from old server. https://screenrant.com/mastodon-change-servers-migrate-account-how/
@TheRelentlessGraduateStudent no you can just sign up on a new server. The advantage of the separation of servers is that you don’t need a separate email or anything. Just make the new account and then go to the bottom of the edit profile page and follow the directions to make the switch happen.
