A nice new crossword gig for me: Object magazine, a sleek coffee-table-worthy magazine from Bombay that goes deep into Indian socio-political-cultural issues *and* fashion.

I have tried to make my crossword reflect the authentic desi vibe of the mag. Sample clue:

11a. Object to Hindenburg incessantly needling Gujarat's pioneers (5)

Yep! “He got 5”, “She took 5wkts” are fine. Think we should always ask “5 for what?” when they do it. :-)

Makes the bowling selection for the next test tough. Who makes way for Anderson?

Stokes, Woakes.... oh, for Foakes' sake! But then I'd pick Sibley...

It’s an “Ashes Summer”, one of sport’s great rivalries, Australia v England at cricket, which dates back to the late 1800s. Here’s Boris Karloff playing cricket for the Hollywood Cricket Club. Other team members included Ronald Colman, Clive Brook and C. Aubrey Smith.

I had posted my "The Hindu #Cryptic" #crossword #13751 (from the last day's paper in 2022) on my site a few days back, but forgot to post about it. Here's a sample clue:

16a. Zero-zero? Crowd slumps in distress, no more excited for this (9,6)

The ongoing story of how Eratosthenes measured the earth, based on ancient evidence. Part 2b: distance.

How did Eratosthenes find out the distance from Syene to Meroë? What units did he use, and what do they mean in modern units? What's the difference between the 'metrological stadion' and the 'itinerary stadion'? (And how do they compare to the kilometre and the 'itinerary kilometre'?)
