Microsoft is in the headlines a lot for monthly layoffs this year but I think a bigger story is how they’re squandering their early lead in AI.
They had an opportunity to disrupt Google in search but Google is no longer vulnerable given AI Mode and AI Overviews.
GitHub Copilot was a vibe coding pioneer but Cursor has leapfrogged them as the premier AI code editor.
All this while OpenAI is trying to get out of the relationship should be concerning to Microsoft’s leadership.
