Got an email with an “opportunity” to write for Brainz Magazine and got this response when I enquired about pay.
If you write, PLEASE know that your labor and expertise have value. Reputable publications pay their writers. Sketchy publications solicit free labor. And scammers charge you to be published.

Lovely piece of doublespeak. They're right, it's not "pay-to-play", it's out and out theft. Stealing is exchanging value, after all!
