Another weird bit of the UK "constitution": an MP has had to retake the oath of office after omitting to swear allegiance to the King's "heirs and successors".
Which is a bit of an odd thing for an MP to swear to. It would mean that if the monarchy was legally abolished and the king died, our sitting representatives would be allied to William Windsor, some bloke from the home counties, not the new republic.

@_thegeoff Well that's an interesting question. If the monarchy were to be abolished, is the King's successor his now-disinherited son, or is it the head of state of the new republic?

@VoxDei Or is it the heir (firstborn or next nearest) AND successor (new head of state), in which case we have another issue. Presumably the two have to duel?
