In art / fandom news β€” DeviantArt has introduced an AI image generator into their site based on their "catalog". You must opt out, via a FORM, not just a checkbox, to have your artwork made unavailable for this tool. The checkbox that exists is only for third-party tools.

Artists, if you have art there and don't want your art included, get on top of this. I am a supporter of AI tools for personal use and inspiration, but this is vicious.

@War_Kittens It's under your profile, Account settings > General settings

@War_Kittens All I can find is the checkbox under settings. Where can we find this form? I haven't been able to find anything about this on dA.

@TeacherGriff I actually am not sure. I think they may have walked the change back because there was immense pushback from folks who either had to deal with or didn't have access to dead loved one's art. Let me check.

@TeacherGriff They walked back their stance do so you're defaulted to opt out, but the catch is their AI is already trained. So opting out really is only going to opt you out from 3rd party that respects that tag and any new art you upload.

@TeacherGriff They'd have to wipe their entire database and retrain it and I highly doubt they'll do that. Like I'm sure they're gonna tell people they're opted out but there's no way they're gonna do that work. I mean maybe they will. You'll have to keep an eye on their site.

@War_Kittens Good to know. I haven't posted any art to it recently, but both of my kids (they're adults) have accounts, so I'll give them a heads-up.

@TeacherGriff It's really a shitshow. I am behind the AI art movement but really only as an adjunct not as a main tool for public consumption.
