Might be too cute for your mere human eyes!

Blessing your timeline with a cute little duck. :kirby_fly:

I should probably post this on newyears, but it is just too fitting with the egg-eating-snake post from earlier. :ablobslurp: :blobcatgiggle:

It surely looks ambitious, a bit greedy maybe, but it is fascinating to look at nonetheless.
Contrary to common believe, snakes do not dislocate their jaws to eat, as they do not have classic mandibular joints. Instead there are really stretchy ligaments that connect the upper and lower mandibular bones to each other and they fuse at the back of their head. Swallowing things a whole is therefore called gaping. 🐍 :ablobslurp:

PS: I don't know which species this is, please someone enlighten me :ablobreach:

Jumping bristletail or in this case the species Trigoniophthalmus alternatus, is a wingless insect of the family Machilidae. It is found throughout the northern Holarctic (excluding China) and undergoes virtually no metamorphosis during its life cycle. Insemination of females takes place indirectly. Males spin silken stalks on which they place droplets of sperm for females to pick up. :ablobcouple:

In case you wondered what traditional sunflower harvesting looks like 🌻 👩‍🌾

The shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) is a long-legged wading bird, belonging to the order of Pelecaniformes (hence the long legs). Shoebills practice urohydrosis, effectively defecating on their legs to lower their body temperature. To each their own. :blobshrug:
Sadly, there are only 5000 estimated specimens alive today. They are mostly threatened by anthropogenic destruction of their marshland habitat and black-market trading, where the rare bird is sold for multiple thousands of dollars. :blobpoliceangry: :blobangry:

The resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) is a small bird found in Central America. Males grow ostentatious tail feathers during mating season, that can reach up to one meter in length. Quetzal birds were considered sacred by the Aztecs and Incas, serving as a template for gods like Quetzalcoatl.
Or in short: They are very pretty to look at :ablobhype:

I'm an early bird, but I respect the elusive nature of the late worm. :blobcatgiggle:

White stags? White deer? Or yet the forest spirit from Princess Mononoke? Who knows! They are majestic either way. 🦌 :ablobwoah:

The Eurasian blue tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) is a small passerine bird of the Paridae family. As a residential and non-migratory bird, the blue tit rarely moves far from where they once hatched.
The yellowness of their ventral parts seems to be correlated to the number of caterpillars eaten, which contain carotene pigments, as well as the time of breeding. 🐦 🐣
Yes kids, a tit is a bird. :ablobcool:

Macro photography of a male "beautiful demoiselle" (Calopteryx virgo), a damselfly belonging to the Calopterygidae family. Male beautiful demoiselles have dark-coloured wings and metallic blue-green bodies, whereas females have brown wings and green bodies. Male specimen can often be seen resting on bankside vegetation, awaiting passing females. :kirby_fly:

A zebra jumping spider (Salticus scenicus) specimen. They can jump distances up to 20x their own body lenght. They jump by explosively straightening their hind legs. As they are lacking extensor muscles, leg extension is achieved via haemocoelic (blood) pressure. 🕷️ :ablobaww:
