Statement from Media Matter CEO Angelo Carusone regarding Elon Musk’s lawsuit threat.

Frankly, I don't care if the "Big Names" of social media bypass Mastodon. What I care about are the poets, sports fans, community activists, academics, nerds, geeks, anime fans, old movie buffs, music fans, philosophers, environmentalists, photographers, bloggers, cat people, dog people, hosers, bloggers, sci-fi freaks, astronomers, biologists, and the marginalized souls that can't find a haven anywhere else. I want authentic egagement with real people.

Interesting about the persistent narrative around teacher turnover...how would it compare to industry? Especially some companies that are allegedly "good" to work for.

President and cofounder of OpenAI just quit on finding out Sam Altman was ousted

me when i hear about another company pausing advertising on the bird site

Once again: Moms for Liberty exists entirely so that white supremacists can violently follow them into community space, then pretend that their violence is "protection" of white women.

This right here is about deceiving people into believing the threat is real, racialized, and comes from Black men.

The current narrative leaking out of OpenAI is that he was fired by the board for trying to turn it into a profitable big tech instead of the non-profit research that many researchers signed up for.

This is like Google's board firing Larry & Sergey the day after ads showed up in Google search and then Eric Schmidt quit on Twitter that afternoon.

The company is basically imploding. Microsoft must be freaking out.

No American should have to log into a private platform which requires to give away privacy to read official statements of Representatives or US officials — much less pay. Continued unique uses of X by state, local, & federal government is a single point of failure. Congress & White House should cross-post to alternative social networks, after negotiating terms of service for federal use that require open archives through an API & create an open archive for social media. e-pluribusunum.org/2019/12/20/

Humanity is definitely on a path to destruction, but professing that AI is the savior is somewhere between naive and absurd, AI will just accelerate the end.

Reading about the OpenAI mission and governance structure is fascinating. Their mission is basically to build Skynet "that benefits all of humanity."

I can actually see how the people who wrote this page would be mad that their CEO is trying to turn them into an enterprise AI company instead of treating that as a side gig so they can focus their energy on building Skynet from Terminator or JARVIS from the Avengers.

Study of 554 public companies finds those w/ a fully flexible remote work policy had a 3-year industry-adjusted revenue growth rate of 21%. Companies requiring in-office work had only 5% growth. Excluding tech, fully flexible companies outperformed by 13%. forbes.com/sites/jenamcgregor/

I have never heard so many educators say "I don't know what to do about that" as I have seen this year, including me.
I was reminded by a colleague that some of the post-COVID things we are faced with have never been seen before and tools and skills we have previously employed do not work for some of the new challenges we face.

Study (N=1,000+) finds men are less eager to disclose negative info than women but there was little diff for positive news. This results in a tendency for men to self-promote without revealing negative experiences to others.
