A Fediverse people index would be really useful. But I think we need better solutions for verification. I suspect it's very doable, but unfortunately I don't know if it's considered a priority.

Well, you and Fritz are great examples that you stumble over interesting people by seeing boosts from other people.
While I understand the thoughts about a text search, I think an opt-in Fediverse people index would be great. If you do not want to be searched for, that should be the default. IMHO the Fediverse is an approach that could bring a modern, ope and federated "yellow pages" to life.
