An interesting trait of the Judeo-Christianity religion is that it promotes freedom. This is actual freedom to make your own choices, not liberation from tyranny, or suffering, which is what other religions promoted. You may burn in hell afterward, but in this life, humans are free.

This is the answer given for why God admits unjust suffering in the world. In the Bible, people chose freedom over paradise.

That snake from Genesis should get credit as the world's first (classical) liberal 😈

@alexelcu what do you mean by the Judeo-Christianity religion? Do you mean Abrahamic religions in general?

Does this really contrast with non-Abrahamic religions?

@acjay I'd say Abrahamic, yes.

I am not a scholar, but yes, AFAIK, this is a trait that sets it apart from other religions, at least for those times.

I'm thinking primarily of Christianity, due to the European context, plus it added some interesting elements, which also became liberal values, like the seeds of secularism (e.g., 'give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God'). It also took a plague and a couple of wars. but we got there 🙂
