When you see the word "conservative" in the media, it is ESSENTIAL to understand that it now means "right-wing extremist" --
I doubt that the public at large does understand this. The word certainly does not mean what it did only a decade ago.
This is another example of how Big (and little) Journalism adopted the framing of the radical right.
Today's example is in Politico, which used the word as an adjective describing the rancid Ann Coulter.
Ludlow, Conway, Megyn Kelly, Haley, all of these prominent republican figures are begging Trump to stop doing personal attacks and stay on message...
What message? Like literally, what do they think the message is he's supposed to stick to? All he's capable of is pablum like "she's the worst" and "worse than Bernie" and other meaningless nonsense.
He doesn't KNOW policy. He doesn't read. He doesn't understand anything about her beyond appearance.
That's your guy.
I've read several pieces this AM about Trump's mutual masturbation session with Elon and I couldn't help but notice that after running thousands of stories about Biden's apparent cognitive issues, reporters don't seem to think it's even worth mentioning that 78-year-old Trump could not make words with his mouth and slurred his way through the whole two hours.
No corporate media, you don't get to normalize appalling overt racism as a campaign strategy.
This morning the NY Times and Washington Post continue analysis of Trump's racist remarks in the context of 'the challenge they pose to Harris.'
It's like opining that a wife beater makes domestic bliss complicated.
Carol Cadwalladr told us it was coming. Racism and misogyny at an unprecedented scale, fueled by corporate media, and it is here.

Media: This is a test. Will you keep #Trump's racism on page one for 3 weeks, demand he exit the race, press every R to comment on it, consult African American studies experts, talk to communities of color ? You know, do your job as resolutely as you did on Biden's age. Try it.
#StephenFry visits #Ukraine. Tells a joke to #Zelensky:
"If #Putin and #Medvedev were at the top of St. Basil's Cathedral and fell off, which one would hit the ground first?
...
Who gives a fuck"
Full video of trip:
When #Trump said "In four years, you won't have to vote again" he meant exactly what it sounds like.
There's no need to look for excuses or tortuous interpretations: the packaging says "fascism" and, sure enough, when you open it up, it's fascism on the inside.
@GottaLaff
Well, this is weird. I just finished going through both the NYT and WaPo sites and didn't see any articles about Trump's age or his confused, rambling, delusional rantings, questioning his degenerative cognitive stability and fitness for office. Seems to me they were both VERY concerned about that in articles and columns on Biden they published almost on a daily basis over the last couple of months. So now that Biden has stepped aside from the race, it's no longer an issue?
US pol: I will not forgive or forget this RNC moment
They had the signs printed in advanced. Hired a graphic designer. (Wow he did a good job.) Handed them out. Waved them proudly on television. Like they say "Lower Taxes" or something.
There is no neutral way to read this sign. It's about getting rid of people because of who they are. There is no gray area. No fig leaf. Just eliminationism.
It doesn't even say WHO or WHY.
Just to be clear - any party telling you who you're not allowed to love, what bathroom you're not allowed to use, which states you're not allowed to travel to, which books you're not allowed to read, which prayers you're not allowed to pray, what neighborhoods you're not allowed to live in, or which things you're not allowed to do with your own body, doesn't give two shits about freedom.
Trump’s mass deportation plan draws on the same pseudoscience and bigotry that built support for concentration camps in the 20th century. Crucial history from @AndreaPitzer https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/trumps-massive-deportation-plan-echoes-concentration-camp-history/
Random #AI observation: I think the commonly used phrases "struggles with facts" or "hallucinates" are poor descriptions of LLM behaviour.
They both feed the hype by anthropomorphizing LLMs without justification.
I think it far more accurate to describe LLMs as "non-reality-based", as there is no concept of truth or fact in their construction.
I don't post a lot of politics on here, but this seems like a terrifying turn for the USA. These people want to ethnically cleanse America. I know it's been building for a while, but to see it so bluntly and enthusiastically supported by a mainstream political party is horrifying.
As if this alone isn't evil enough, history tells us that once they've built an apparatus to do this, it will be used on other groups that they don't like.
It must be stopped.
it's bananas to see the RNC covered like it's normal in places like YouTube as breaking news and in the NYT where articles praise the party and the event when it's a gathering of people pushing for the most unpopular policies of all time.
They want absolute control of women's bodies, eradication of anyone outside gender norms, rollback of every civil rights gain, and destroying every environmental protection that keeps things livable.
All of that for less taxes on rich assholes.
A parlor game from 1941 : Who among your friends will go Nazi?
"I have gone through the experience many times—in Germany, in Austria, and in France. I have come to know the types: the born Nazis, the Nazis whom democracy itself has created, the certain-to-be fellow-travelers. And I also know those who never, under any conceivable circumstances, would become Nazis."

JD Vance has pledged he would do what Mike Pence wouldn’t - overturn an election and illegally seize power. He says the president can ignore the rulings of our courts. He would capitulate to Russia and sacrifice the freedom of our allies in Ukraine. The Trump GOP is no longer the party of Lincoln, Reagan or the Constitution.
