Am I the only one who finds the "transition" to Mastodon somewhat uphill? I want to subscribe to relevant scientists and hear about their work, papers, upcoming conferences and what else happens in the field. But it seems that I just get a random mix of all kinds of irrelevant posts. Perhaps there are not yet enough people on the platform for it to work?

@ditlevbrodersen This early, some fields have moved significantly ( being one of them), others I'm not so sure. One way to discover people in your field is via hashtags: click on them, or even follow hashtags. And use hashtags when writing posts to make them discoverable. I've been using for volume electron microscopy, and or when posting job ads or announcements. And surely exists (yes: shows 25 tagged posts per week at the moment). And see also::
