These massacres happen over and over, because the American elites both do not care about the American people, and have removed so much power from us that we can no longer easily implement the changes most of us want.

The solution is to end the elite class.

75% tax rates. Prison for white collar crimes. No more tax shelters.

No one should have enough money to buy a Supreme Court judge.

So many of our problems become solvable by ending billionaires.

@alexwild How do you promote policies to end billionaires when the latter effectively write their policy into law, and the information asymmetry is so large between the largely uninformed public and the well-informed self-serving micro-minority?

@alexwild Sorry,
I’m basically asking you to provide a solution and that isn’t fair. It’s hard enough to recognize the problem.

The conundrum I posed does keep me awake often. Depending on wise kings a la Plato isn’t easy or durable—power corrupts. And when democratic institutions stop being supported and nurtured, mayhem ensues, a phase we seem to be in presently. Revolution, as in organized rebellion, is painful for many, particularly for the most vulnerable. Reform seldom if ever has enough thrust to push through. Yet doing nothing at some point is not tenable either.
