This is #Montmorency Falls near #Quebec City. At 83 meters (272 feet), it's 30 meters (99 feet) higher than Niagara Falls. I can assure you, I was well soaked taking this photo. I didn't go any closer than this.

Work continues on Confederation Square in Ottawa on Jan. 10, 1939, as we look down at the site from Union Station at Connaught Place.
The site would open later in the year, and was inaugurated by King George VI during his Royal Visit in May.

I was recalling that I'd seen someone online call foxes "cat software running on dog hardware," which led us to look at our own pets, and we decided that guinea pigs are lion software running on potato hardware.
Years ago I bought a collection of IBM Selectric Typewriter ‘golf balls’ (including some rarer ones) from a typewriter repair shop. Once upon a time this was how fonts were stored for the machine. The owner literally used his arm to shovel them into a cardboard box like he couldn’t get rid of them fast enough, in a shop full of hundreds of them. Today in 1859, ground is broken on the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa. The first stone will be laid down on April 1, and on Sept. 1, 1860, Prince Albert Edward, the future King Edward VII, lays the corner stone of the centre block
Construction will finish in 1876.

Today in 1914, the Princess Patricia's Light Infantry sails to France with the 80th Brigade. They land the next day, becoming the 1st Canadian infantry unit to reach the battlefield in the First World War.
