Looks like Paul Matthews is slated to talk about the Fediverse on RNZ after the 11am news today. I gave him a bollocking for the faint praise he's thrown at us all the other times he's mentioned it. He's always focused on what the US mega-corporates are doing, as if communities had nothing to contribute.

@lightweight
Is that the guy I just heard who thinks it's Masterton?

@richardh listening to the podcast now (rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/ ) and yeah, seems like Paul's mistaken. And yeah, as per usual, he's promoting corporate-run stuff (Bluesky) above 'Masterton'. Big sigh. Such blinkers on.

@richardh I really wish RNZ would instead talk to a credible technologist who understands these things - both the technologies and the structures/models in which they exist. I can think of a few who'd be far better able to explain and avoid shilling for corporate interests (mostly because they don't know any better).

Whoever does RNZ's tech opinions in their shows most of the time demonstrate that they haven't got the foggiest on the new developments. I have practically stopped listening to their opinions, as they mostly have to do with proprietary software. What did they talk about ? Will RNZ join Fediverse after their fiasco with the birdsite or will they still cling on?

@arinbasu we've certainly been trying to encourage them to join the Fediverse properly (not just a cheesy repeater from Twitter)... @richardh
