Hi everyone! 👋 I'm honestly shocked/honored so many of you have decided to follow me on here!
I'm not sure how many of you are new (like me!) or are long time #Fediverse users, but I want to take some time today to pause on the #science and make sure us #newbies know the rules of the road and are being respectful of standard posting guidelines here.
If I ever do something with my posting that you all don't like here in the #Fediverse, please please tell me! I'm learning and want to integrate into the existing service, not try to change anything!
Some things I've learned: CWs are more widely used here. They can be applied over an entire post or picture. This is new to me (I'm used to only adding them via text at the top of a tweet) so I'm going to be looking into what common CWs are used here. If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
I've also learned that I can "unlist" toots under the first one in a thread so that I don't clutter timelines (is that what you call them here?)
...and as I'm saying this I realize I forgot to do this on the previous post!
Another thing I've noticed is that alt text is not only much more widely used here (this is great!), it's also more obvious where to find the button to add it!
In general I love how much more responsive Mastodon is to accessibility concerns and I encourage all the newbies like me to use these tools!
and a question for the #Fediverse from a #newbie that I forgot to include!
I've seen a few other instances suggested to me. Do people often make accounts on multiple ones? And if so, how do you manage that?? I'm used to just posting everything about myself under a single account!
Also how do I turn off the notification sound?? I can't find it in the settings and it's overpowering my daily Taylor Swift 🙃
@_astronoMay which app are you using and on what OS? At least in iOS you can set notifications off in Settings.
