I think it's fascinating how some people are like "stories is how we comprehend the world around us. They are a device to reflect upon our reality" and then proceed to buy a louis vuitton bag 2 days after reading the Great Gatsby or some shit like that

Example obviously exaggerated but if you don't consciously allow yourself to be influenced by the media you consume, what do you hope to gain from it apart from a brief bout of escapism?

@auldlangsin it's less that they don't let themselves be influenced and more that they fail to pick up on the themes and lack literary analysis skills. E.g. guardians of the galaxy 3 is a clearly anti-eugenics and anti-fascist movie yet many viewers just pick up on the surface level "let's fight the evil guy who was mean to rocket" narrative

@Eris Nah. That might be true for some cases but a lot of people could analyse Ulysses six ways from sunday but could read Momo and order food delivery the same day because they "don't have the time to cook"

@auldlangsin and I'd be bringing them the food because that's my job

@auldlangsin tbf there are valid reasons for food delivery (although most people don't have those reasons) e.g. I would greatly benefit from Hello Fresh (if it were more affordable) because planning making a meal with ingredients shopping is a massive hurdle when you have ADHD
