It is my first time and, if I'm honest, I was (am?) nervous. It wasn't a decision taken lightly. With cost of living going up and a family to support, the loss of income will be felt. #ucuRISING

Absolutely livid to be doing this, but firmly supporting @OxfordUCU and @ucu's #strikes in support of university #pensions and pay - particularly for early-career staff and those on short-term contracts. #ucuRISING #UCU

UK university sector generated record income of £41.1bn last year

Meanwhile staff pensions have been cut by up to 35% Real terms pay cuts have been ~25% since 2009

I am on strike today alongside 70,000 other members of staff at UK universities. Our income after inflation has fallen 25% in recent years and we are currently being offered 3% while inflation is 10%. To add insult to injury we are being forced to increase our monthly pension contributions at the same time as having our pension entitlements reduced. They say cutbacks.
