@icedquinn Hamming gave this really interesting lecture on hiring, right? He said that at Bell Labs, the researchers had been in charge of hiring more researchers, but the business guys got ahold of it, and they stopped hiring off-putting people. Hamming went on, especially for research, you want someone that thinks unconventionally and someone with unconventional thoughts about physics often also has unconventional thoughts about appropriate behavior and personal hygiene.

I think, in general, HR does more harm than good in the hiring process.

@mangeurdenuage thanks, i only have grown fava beans so far. maybe I'll try sone of those next year :)

I was looking for a hard drive to put in a trashpicked 2009 MacBook Pro, and I picked one I totally forgot I installed Haiku on. It boots right up and runs perfectly. haiku-os.org/

the most probably real conspiracy is that the control grid created all kinds of models with game theory and keysnian economics but they need to make you retarded enough to fit the model because human behavior is too chaotic to be managed with certainty.

One of the many infortunate consequences of the success of GitHub is that lots of developers are now convinced that development has to be a public, social activity.

You do not have to release everything you build. You do not have to accept patches. You do not have to answer to emails or to issues. You do not have to fix bugs or implement features. You do not even have to continue working on your projects.

If any aspect of your public work stresses you, remember that.

This is how the binary system works, explained with an ingenious wooden counter.

@sun bruh, it's a chimeric virus. but does not contain any known components of influenza virus. corona viruses are a family that is known to make up about ~ 10-30% of common cold symptoms. so it's a cold virus really

except with engineered parts to bind to human ACE2 receptor, a small fragment of HIV, a patented furin cleavage site, a SV40 (cancer) virus transctiption promoter

so no it's not the flu
