@FourOh-LLC @cjd plot twist: they are paranoid psychopaths and just give all the kids laced sweets ;)

@cjd i wonder how children "look like" when their parents are trump supporters.

I'm talking at a conference later this year (on UX+AI).

I just saw an ad for the conference with my photo and was like, wait, that doesn't look right.

Is my bra showing in my profile pic and I've never noticed...? That's weird.

I open my original photo.
No bra showing.

I put the two photos side by side and I'm like WTF...

Someone edited my photo to unbutton my blouse and reveal a made-up hint of a bra or something else underneath. 🤨

Immediately, I email the conference host.
(FYI he is a great, respectable guy with 5 kids at home.)

He is super apologetic and immediately looks into the issue.

He quickly reports back that the woman running their social media used a cropped square image from their website.

She needed it to be more vertical, so she used an AI expand image tool to make the photo taller.

AI invented the bottom part of the image (in which it believed that women's shirts should be unbuttoned further, with some tension around the buttons, and revealing a little hint of something underneath). 🤯

FYI the conference organizers were super apologetic and took down all of the content with that photo.

i don't think positively about them at all.

i'm looking at it from two hypothetical hats: the hat of someone who really, really hates another country and wants to punish them. this hat could do so much real damage with just a little bit of the right effort

another hat is i'm controlled and just doing enough terrorism to keep a forever war going and nothing else. if i'm wearing this hat, i'd do exactly what terrorism looks like right now: stab some guy at a mall, makes people mad, but doesn't actually do anything on a strategic scale.
@Tfmonkey @shortstories My brother in christ, that isn't bread, that's an unholy and nutritionally sparse amalgamation of artificial and denatured ingredients and possibly seed oils; goyslop. Everything you ever admitted to eating fits this description. Real bread is just water, flour and yeast. Real alternative 'bread' just replaces the wheat flour with another and some kind of emulsifier. Please eat real food. :ablobcatnodmeltcry-0:

I think that Peanut The Squirrel may very well be the thing that costs the Democratic Party their entire claim on being "the party of human decency".

So many of the democrat influencers are saying "but the law said it was ok to kill the squirrel". This is honestly the most terrible reply possible.

Their whole party identity is based around the idea that they would NOT kill your squirrel, even if it's illegal to have it, because they believe in being decent and reasonable human beings.

The "rules are rules" perspective is a religious-authoritarian vision which is an abbreviated way to say "by all following the rules, we all win, so we need you to follow them too". Democrats are NOT this, their illegal immigration perspective leans decidedly on "human decency".

Their problem though is that illegal immigration could have another explanation, perhaps it's not human decency that motivates them. The right claims that they're importing the 3rd world as a plot to destroy the country, they reply to this with "how could you" and so on.

But their killing of Peanut, or more precisely, their unwillingness to distance themselves from it, calls into question whether they ever actually cared about anyone.

To lose the human decency claim is so devastating. They don't have military strength, they don't have fiscal conservatism, they don't have law and order, and they don't have individual liberty - except in narrow cases like abortion. They gave up anti-war 5 or so years ago, and now even their grip on science and progress is tenuous, with the guy whose Actually Launching Rockets now denouncing them.

Without Human Decency, the democratic party stands for nothing. It's the empty shell of a party that relies on social pressure to bully people into saying they're going to vote for them.

But the whole "nobody has to know who you voted for" thing cuts both ways.

communism and socialism like all collectivist systems only work because their proponents are ruthless, care for their own wellbeing only and are willing to use violence to further their own wellbeing regardless of others.

@mr_penguin i have no idea on which side of the blocklists freetalklive is, but there are plenty of real people in the part where free speech is an ideal :)
