Talked to a younger female cousin a bit over the weekend, about gender things. (Several relatives were here, to visit my grandma who's nearing her end...)

From her new style of hair and clothing I had feared the worst, and sure enough she fulfilled a few stereotypes.

It's interesting how proponents of contemporary trans activism all repeat the *exact* same talking points as if they keep rehearsing them in group sessions or something...

I tried to nudge her a bit towards common sense by asking about her opinions re. intact male transwomen with full beards, transwomen in female sports, the notion of a transwoman like Caitlin Jenner never having had male privilege, etc., but it was of limited success.

What I find super frustrating is when people who hold steadfastly onto very strong and controversial opinions are at the same time super sensitive, so you can't even disagree too openly. She's very sweet and meek, so I made sure to ask everything in a tone as soft and innocent as I could, let her speak 90% of the time, and ended up not even directly countering any of the typical talking points she brought up, no matter how bad they were, simply because I didn't want to turn our conversations into a debate.

When it comes to political debate, I honestly prefer talking to aggressive 4chan-style internet trolls, because then I can just completely destroy their arguments with no remorse. :blobcatjustright:

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as the FSF, is in fact, RMS/FSF, or as I've recently taken to calling it, RMS plus FSF.

The FSF is not an organization unto itself...

#fediblock: "just block every domain mentioned in this hashtag. we have a 0% false positive rate, and everything on the list is guaranteed to be horrible and bad and possibly illegal. so you have no excuses but to add every domain."

Also #fediblock: "usual scum" "self explanatory" "the usual" "do I even need a reason?" "usual harassment" "no receipts necessary" "usual" "another chud instance" "usual" "usual"

"Do what I say. It's not yours to question my motives."

@bonifartius @sjw @p @r000t @neo @graf @lanodan And yet still the fig leaf of an adjective with "unfounded". Naturally they can't just come straight out and say that all meritocracies are bad. That would be the quiet part out loud.

TIL Signal is considered "alt-tech", which is defined as:

"platforms that offer a promise of uncensored speech, which exist specifically to give a space for far-right, nationalist, racist, or extremist points of view, and which harbor a broad sense of grievance that speech has been "censored" for failure to be "politically correct." Many, but not all of these alt-tech sites are far-right communities."

I don't want to see any more half-page ads from Wikipedia begging for money, if they're gonna start refusing cryptocurrency donations.

If you don't want proceeds from cybercrime, you must not be hurting that bad.

The scary thing is that it is some part of the EU threatening to force twitter to censor... and they are already here. At least some part of them knows that the fediverse exists and has for a while now. They want to use and are using the fediverse and most likely mastodon software. How long until it applies here too? Until we see whole instances censored for EU member states for not complying to censorship so users can't view instances? They will have to bypass it with a vpn, instances within the EU will need to comply... what a nightmare for them.
