exactly the stuff i'd expect from the gnome folks though:

haha, webshit weekly is glorious again:
> Signal is having technical difficulties
> Signal (business model: "Uber for texting") falls over. Most communications protocols are federated, and would survive one company's servers eating dirt, but Signal's owner/operator has decided this would degrade the user experience, presumably worse than the entire service shitting the bed out loud. Hackernews assumes that Signal is incapable of paying its hosting fees, and comes to the rescue by sending their money to a company that can't spin up cloud nodes fast enough to serve text messages. Other Hackernews bemoan the fact that once again they look like idiots, since they just conned half their friends and family into signing up for this mess.
i hope people understand that the ecological cost of crypto is not an ‘unfortunate side effect’ but is instead the very means by which it claims value at all

while i'm really happy that people want matrix to succeed, this is a thread full of bad ideas.
> element is too hard
no it isn't, my mother could use it without much introduction. stop making good tools dumber because you want lazy people to use them. if someone can't be bothered with 15 minutes of clicking around in an interface, they can stay at whatsapp, thanks. i'm done with giving up my sanity for the sake of people who act if everything has to come free to them.
> homeserver hosting is too hard
if installing an additional debian package and replacing some values in a default config is "too hard", it's better that you don't touch any server anyway. it just would end up in the next botnet. there is a reason why people are trained for system administration (or put in decades of self-teaching). stop devaluing the jobs and knowledge of those people by trying to build shitty "easy" solutions. there are no easy solutions for complicated problems.
> GROWTH HACKING!111
just stop.
Just to put this into perspective:
The average value of a Bitcoin transaction is currently $119 and requires energy worth roughly $100 (the world average price is $0.14 per kWh).
👏👏👏
@galaxis if everyone had just listened to jwz about XScreenSaver this wouldn't have happened
state licensed lolbert and hypernatalist with a breeding kink. never watched rick & morty and i'm proud of it.
don't only rely on my words, read what happy customers wrote about me: "10/10 would buy again", "top seller, great value", "wildly incorrect", "teil des problems", "without imagination", "Repeated provocation using copy/paste.", "if you take a dump in my mentions, I just might notice the smell", "log out and never login again", "Du redest wirr.", "My brother in Christ, this is such a ridiculously dumb statement that I will no longer entertain this silly conversation.", "Auf Derailing-Diskussionen habe ich keine Lust. Finger über dem Blocken-Knopf.", "Wie gesagt, du kannst der Diskussion inhaltlich nicht folgen."
