The problem I have with many archivists is that they don't respect or care about consent. They see their goal as preserving every little bit of history.

One does not go outside and freeze all the snow that falls.

One does not try to preserve a soap bubble.

Some content is meant to be like that, to be ephemeral, to be viewed and never seen again.

And that's beautiful.

I don't see not wanting such stuff to be crawled as destruction any more than I see the snow melting or a bubble popping as destruction. It's ephemeral.

If it snows in Key West, do we try to freeze Key West to save it? Or appreciate the moment it has existed?

So, I can see the argument towards enjoying the moment, but if it snowed in Key West, you can bet most people will be taking photos to share that moment with those who missed it.

I, personally, am alright with ignoring ROBOTS.TXT for archival purposes. I would rather my mistakes become immortalized, than lose those mistakes forever. If it was so easy to forget the past, I would have no reason to try to be the best me.
