A word of advice from others - since the servers communicate, you don't necessarily have to sign up on one of the busier ones. For instance, I chose one that seems more to align with my interests, but if you search (for instance) for hashtag you will be able to see very helpful posts.

Also, this seems to be a much safer space, so I've adjusted my profile to include my real name.
Not sure about the best method of verification - haven't done anything with gpg/pgp keys in 20+ years, but perhaps they'll make a comeback? The cool thing about 'key parties' was that you got 'verified' by people you knew and who knew you, and that spread via the whole 'degrees of separation' thing.
I also understand 2FA is possible, so I guess I'll want to figure that out next.

@cajun_cheechako i have almost given up on pgp evangelism but am always happy to tutor people in it

signal has taken over a lot of my pgp comms

mixmaster/minion are liked but seem to be dwindling

@ptarnation anything that can provide some simple measure of verification/non-repudiation would be great. Doesn't have to be gpg

@ptarnation maybe on a local/personal level this can be done?
e.g.
Points -
I know @x1
Personally, professionally, etc
I know people who know @x1
Etc.
Aggregate the confirmations based on your own levels of trust, higher points, greater trust.

Not gpg/pgp but similar.

Especially important for:
Local news orgs
Local government
Local school districts
Local weather
Local LEO

Addresses the 'new' problem with $8/mo 'blue checkmarks' ?

@cajun_cheechako hey, sorry for the delay, i’m on 24x3 work right now

agree that implementing a system-wide web of trust in a bot or coordinated action situation seems likely to not be effective, but a unique to user/not public “score,” sure

lists serve some of this purpose now & maybe i’ll divide my regular follows up into those

@cajun_cheechako i am not braining good this morning, i’ll revisit this when i’m back on regular time
