@Gargron Opt in to tracking it, somehow? I, for one, will definitely opt into such tracking if it's for the benefit of the community. Then again, privacy, what's that?

If a drive were to say, fail, I'd rather just be able to pull the bad component out and replace it with minimal fuss.

Trying to figure anything out about the welcome screen is frustrating. From feedback, most new people actually just fully skip it. And while "no tracking" is sweet in terms of ethics and privacy, it means there's no way for me to know how people interact with that screen, especially people who do not stick around and therefore would not even respond to a toot like this.

@Gargron I would agree, but if no incentive to make those sorts of fields required is there, you're probably going to run into the issue a lot.

The current welcome screen goes over these things in this order:

1. Hi, here is what your username is with the domain part
2. This is what the compose part is, and what options you generally have
3. These are the different timelines you can see
4. Here is who your admin is

And while that's kind of useful information (varying degrees of) it feels like it's missing a narrative in some way, something like "how do I make this place useful for myself"

@generica@octodon.social On a slightly unrelated note, that's how things are done in the paranormal; sometimes an entitycan only be destroyed by burning.

And also, not as if having the unit without a bezel detracts from any functionality, unlike some venders ...

Looks like measurements on the current bakers rack will not include a dell PowerEdge bezel. definitely adds two extra unnecessary inches. and it's not like I need to lock my servers.

@kejt Not sure what I think of this one, but it sure did have me laughing.
