masto meta, accessibility

putting it on people to recognize that their display name may be inaccessible means they're likely to recognize when it's a problem in much harder to autodetect places. for example, "zalgo text" display names can sound like utter nonsense and be hard to autodetect

instead of removing emoji from display names, consider:
adding a note about screen readers to the display name selection field after you've added an emoji, which says something along the lines of "hey, don't put too many of these 'cause the entire name of the emoji gets read by screen readers"

linux question, boosts welcome

so this thing we've had happened that might be... x related? perhaps? it happens on gnome and xfce.
is that on our laptop, words will have underlines until we press space/punctuation/etc

it also does things like not actually count as being typed in things like autocompleting searches, and prevent us from ctrl+backspacing (the first use of it just stops underlining)

it's weird
anyone know what could be up?
(it does also interrupt our compose key)

REDOC
In cryptography, REDOC II and REDOC III are block ciphers designed by Michael Wood (cryptographer) for Cryptech Inc and are optimised for use in software. Both REDOC ciphers are patented.REDOC II (Cusick and Wood, 1990) operates on 80-bit blocks with a 160-bit key. The cipher has 10 rounds, and uses key-dependent S-boxes and masks used to select the tables for use in different rounds of the cipher. Cusick found an attack on one round, and Biham and Shamir (1991) used differential cryptanalysis to attack one round with 2300 encryptions. Biham and Shamir also found a way of recovering three masks for up to four rounds faster than exhaustive search. A prize of US$5,000 was offered for the best attack on one round of REDOC-II, and $20,000 for the best practical known-plaintext attack.
REDOC III is a more efficient cipher. It operates on an 80-bit block and accepts a variable-length key of up to 20,480 bits. The algorithm consists only of XORing key bytes with message bytes, and uses no permutations or substitutions. Ken Shirriff describes a differential attack on REDOC-III requiring 220 chosen plaintexts and 230 memory.

discord and accessibility

so, discord appears to have remade their feedback page, in the process erasing all the old issues and their upvotes.

so we're gonna make the call for people to please, if you have a discord account, upvote this issue support.discordapp.com/hc/en-u so that maybe discord's asshole devs will finally make it actually accessible for screen readers

support.discordapp.com/hc/en-u is also worth upvoting.

also @ developers, make your shit accessible from the ground up
