You can't talk about gender when studying a field with massively enormous gender effects! You can't ask for constructs to be empirically validated! You must accept 20 person qualitative samples as speaking to a population of literally millions! You can't cite theory from psychology when talking about human beings and their psychology! So much software research is so deeply and unbelievably unserious.
@capbri yeah I do. My psych PhD was on the disclosure of performance information in classrooms; my postdoc was in edtech. I was in quant learning science & efficacy and achievement psych/edtech work before founding a lab to look at the social science of software teams, including how they learn. So...yeah a lot of learning work over here actually.
