It's going to come to the point where we need a burner phone just to go shopping. Yesterday, in the department store, a shop wouldn't let us receive the discount unless we downloaded their company's app. I refused. To their credit, & to the credit of the Taiwanese in general, they found a workaround by issuing us a temporary membership card from the department store. But still, this is ridiculous.

For weird untrusted apps, I usually use [Island](github.com/oasisfeng/island) to isolate them.

I also really hate the trend of everything asking you to install apps tho.

@casualwp
Haha! "Are you worried about suspicious apps? Well, there's an app for that!" 😁

Seriously, tho, thanks for that. I'll have to look into it.

Are you in Taiwan, too?

@casualwp
I'm in Taichung. There were two other guys from Taipei who used to post, but they don't check in very often anymore. There's also guy from Switzerland who visits Taiwan often & posts on here. Other than that, there aren't many of us.

@SlowRain

I'm in Taipei, though I also go to Kaohsiung quite a lot.

Interestingly, one of my first toots here actually got a pretty swift reply in traditional Chinese from @snow (and my original post wasn't even in Chinese lol).

@casualwp
Based on your Masto profile, I assume you're studying software development.

@SlowRain

Yep! Loved computer stuff since I was really little.
