I think it's more nuanced than that though. The way I view his statements, it seems similar to issues like voting and property rights. Like, the rights/amount of independence a minor has been (and will probably continue to be) a thorny issue. Especially when the person is of $age_of_consent-$epsilon. And especially if you believe in morality independent of the government/jurisdiction.
And like voting age issues, obviously the solution is not to remove the line altogether. But I also don't see it harmful to bring it up for discussion.
