Freedom of speech is worth defending because it's the only way we have to convey ideas and subject theories to scrutiny prior to implementing them. In this conception, it is not an inherent contradiction to draw a distinction between speech that is ephemeral and speech that seeks to act on the world. Though I still oppose restrictions on the latter, due to the fact that they're always used to restrict the former.

the famous "fire in a crowded theater" exception to the first amendment was in fact a ruling against a jahova's witness who was distributing anti-war leaflets, not a ruling about a madman trying to create a panic in a theater.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand a Reddit post. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also OP's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from IFuckingLoveScience literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Reddit truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in OP's post "It's one of many cognitive dissonances people have to accept in order to make themselves believe in the concept of free speech" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as OP's genius unfolds itself on their television screens.
