An ancient amber bear. Carved about 10,000 years ago, this magical find washed up on a beach at Fanø in Denmark from a submerged Mesolithic settlement under the North Sea. National Museum of Denmark. 📷 my own

Back when Windows 95 came out you could drag "The Internet" icon to the bin and it'd pop up a message that said "Are you sure you want to delete The Internet?" and we thought it was hilarious but in hindsight maybe one of us should have said "yes".

Just so we are clear…

Selling a cake to a gay person is participating in the marriage, but selling a gun to a shooter isn’t participating in a murder.

What a country!

Why doesn't Canada have the same battles over affirmative action?

Simple: the Charter says that its Equal Protection provision "does not preclude any law, program or activity that has as its object the amelioration of conditions of disadvantaged individuals or groups including those that are disadvantaged because of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical disability."

It's litigated around the margins, but the basic premise of AA is firmly entrenched.

I have a new business building one-page wedding web sites. If you are a same sex couple, the service is free. This is not a joke.

So if the whole university admissions departments now solemnly swear that it's against their religion to not prioritize applicants from underserved social groups or races, the university would be forbidden to interfere?

I'll make you a gay website whether you like it or not

Americans: I use miles and pounds

Europeans: I use kilometres and kilograms

Canadians: [snorting a line of assorted measuring systems] I'm 5'3, I weigh 150Ibs, horses weigh 1000kgs, my house is an hour away and | drive 80 km/h to get there, I need a cup of flour and 1L of milk

it is with a heavy heart that I regret to inform you that the tech bros have invented sails

I’ve got no words for the massive amount of fury and despair I feel today and I’ve felt ever since the Trump election. I know this, and Dobbs, and the affirmative action case, and so many others are the result of a decades-long onslaught of money to create a more repressive, less democratic, and now more fascist America.

Despair is the way I feel about the rapid climate change crisis that we are living through as well.

For my mental health, I don’t write about this much. When I go back to posting selfies and writing about the little things that go on in my life, I’ll still be feeling this mix of rage and hopelessness, don’t you worry.

the idea of being visited by aliens lost its appeal when i realized they’d likely just be some other planet’s asshole billionaires

Star Wars rules:

- If you’re on a planet or moon or just barely in the atmosphere at all, you can breathe just fine.

- When flying a ship, the control stick gets heavier and more difficult to move the closer to crashing you get.

- Computer security? Never heard of it.

- There are only like 10 people on each planet and they all know each other.

If you ever go to someone’s house for dinner and they keep bragging about how sturdy the dining table is, chances are 99.9% that they got freaky on it.

We do this not because it's easy, but because we thought it would be easy.

Imagine if the press treated Biden's use of #CPAP as a moment to educate the public about a life-saving treatment for a common condition, instead of like 5th graders saying "Ew, he's old!"
But that wouldn't fit the GOP's pre-existing bullshit narrative, so instead we get this.

RT @thedailybeast
A White House spokesperson was forced to admit that President Joe Biden is using a CPAP machine to treat sleep apnea after reporters noticed slight indentations on his face.
