I just migrated to @chikim! Hopefully it works! :)

@vick21 I migrated from mastodon.social to qoto.org, instance for academics in STEM field. It supports 65,535 character limit with Markdown and Latex support. qoto.org/about/more

@chikim Yeah, but will those 65K characters display on other instances?

@vick21 From what I understand, Fediverse and ActivityPub can be blogs as well, so Mastodon can interact with long posts. Generally people on Mastodon have to click more to reveal beyond 500 characters, but it depends on how each instance and client is setup to display beyond 500 characters.

@chikim I see. This whole fediverse thing stars reminding me of the United States of America. :)

@vick21 This is just one side of story, so I don't know all the detail. The story goes... A user posted hate speech on Qoto and got banned. In retaliation, he and his supporters launched a revenge campaign against Qoto, deploying bot accounts to flood with more hate speech. The small mod team struggled to keep up with the attack. Then ironically, the same individuals responsible for the hate speech then accused Qoto of hosting such content, claiming it violated the server's own rules. Meanwhile, outsiders who only saw the mess—without full context—misinterpreted the issue and took offense at the phrase "academic freedom of expression," and decided to block Qoto.

@vick21 That was more than 500 characters, so I'm curious how the post appeared on your end. lol
