@rygorous i just watched the vfx video and some photography was shown to be all greenscreen in a studio but it's not clear to me whether some earlier parts were actually at a mining location...?

@JamesWidman as far as I know it's an actual open-pit mine in the Czech Republic

@JamesWidman semi-related, this is quite close to where I grew up https://goo.gl/maps/oUt4X2FPsqvhyuA47 you look at that and go "oh that's a big hole". Well, leave the photo view, turn on the satellite image layer, and then zoom out until you see Cologne to see a size reference.

@JamesWidman if you zoom and pan around that image, you see some machinery that looks like toys. but then eventually near the edges you see things closer to a normal human scale, like say trees, cars or houses.

it's really really hard to grasp just how enormous it all is
