@averagedood @thelinuxexperiment It's still a proposal. And it's not that bad tbh: it's opt-in, the data will be anonymous, the tool is open-source and they're transparent about it. So why not ?

We are used to companies profiling people for selling ads instead of using telemetry to improve the product. FOSS community is not interested in selling your data. It can be just a good thing to help the development of our favorite softwares

If they're completely transparent, depending on the info it collects, I may be even willing to opt-in, but I got really worried it was going to be a mandatory thing
